My BFF - Boswellia Frankincense Forever!
I would like to introduce you to my BFF, also known as Boswellia Frankincense Forever!

For thousands of years, the natural, alternative and complementary health practices have considered Frankincense gum resin (extracted from the Boswellia tree) and its key active ingredient of boswellic acid, to have powerful healing properties. In more recent times, you may also be aware of the upsurge in demand for Boswellia serrata (one of the more commonly used resins in the genus) as a supplement for our pets, with the reported benefits being the subject of much discussion as to whether there is scientific evidence or purely anecdotal support.

Boswellia serrata has indeed been the subject of much modern medicine and pharmacological research, and the results are showing support for its beneficial propertiesAt the end of this blog, please find links to just some of the many research articles available online which provide more information on the various effects. To mention a few a these – Boswellia is reported to be helpful in supporting joint health (particularly through its anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory properties), supporting better blood flow, and it may also provide potential therapeutic benefits for asthma sufferers.

Personally I have found that I’ve been able to keep my arthritic retired horse comfortable and replace his two Danilon a day (which he’s been on for over 4 years) with the daily addition of Bosfleks alongside Ron Fields Elastin tonic for horses (which help maintain healthy joints, muscles and movement) to his feeds. Not only is he now on natural supplements (and licking his bowl clean) but I still have the option of using Danilon as occasional additional medicinal pain relief should he need it, something I’m much happier about than continuing its long term use. Using Boswellia powder and Elastin tonic in conjunction with Devil’s Claw Root powder, has also increased the mobility of a customer’s horse, something their bodyworker commented on during their last treatment session.

In addition to all the above products, at White Horse Remedies we also stock a number of other excellent products containing Boswellia such as Red Horse Joint Support (which contains Boswellia extract as well as glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals and other plant extracts). For dogs we have Phytopet “Ease” Herbal Remedy for Joints (which contains Boswellia, turmeric, cats claw and Chinese skullcap) and BosDog Original, as well as Elastin Liquid for Dogs and Elastin Treats for Dogs

Given the improvements in comfort and movement I’ve seen in my retired boy through feeding these natural supplements, Boswellia really is our Best Friend Forever!
