Blackberry Leaf 1kg £14.00
Horses love blackberry leaves, finding them very palatable and nutritious. The leaves have a long tradition of use for their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and immune boosting benefits.
Like their cousin the raspberry, blackberry leaves are rich in flavonoid compounds which are powerful antioxidants. The best known flavonoids are quercetin and kaempferol which are two of the main antioxidants in the leaves. These compounds have anti-inflammatory and immune system benefits. The leaves are also rich in tannins, fruit acids, vitamin C, and minerals such as calcium, potassium and manganese. The tannins and other compounds have a beneficial effect on mucous membranes and may help support the respiratory system and inflamed airways. They may also help strengthen the intestinal system and intestinal flora, and provide support in the event of diarrhoea or loose droppings. The leaves are thought to have gastro-protective antioxidants which lower the pH and may help protect against the onset of gastric ulcers.
Blackberry leaves may also help cleanse and detoxify the blood. The leaves contain ellagic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant, which may help protect against inflammation such as that associated with laminitis and EMS.
